There are hordes of electric two-wheelers in our market. The number of brands making their foray in the market mostly appear to be rebranded Chinese products. We’re not trying to find fault with that of course, but quality is an important factor, and so is the assurance that the product will stand the test of time without any hassles. Okinawa has been in existence for quite some time and should prove to be reliable with its offering – the i-Praise.
Engine
Packed neatly within the frame is a 1000 W brushless DC hub motor that produces 2500 watts of power. The motor is fully electric and comes paired to an automatic transmission.
Specifications
It may be an electric scooter, but there’s no denying the fact that it is in fact a stylish-looking product. The i-Praise looks every bit like the Praise. It’s one of those designs that can be compared to the Yamaha Ray Z and Honda’s Dio. It boasts an aggressively designed front apron with a sharply designed LED headlamp. It even gets integrated indicators on the handlebar. The side profile of the scooter gives one the impression of a very sporty-looking machine. It gets a triangular tail light cluster along with in-built indicators. The instrument cluster is surrounded by a silver plastic insert. It features a speedometer, odometer, battery meter and single trip meter. What could improve is the level of fit and finish. In terms of dimensions, the Okinawa Praise is 1970mm in length, 745mm in width and 1150mm in height. The scooter can reach a top speed of 73kph, but it doesn’t feel all that quick. With the Turbo mode on, it manages decent pace. The acceleration remains the same, but the top speed increases. ‘Turbo’ works in both modes: Eco and Sport. In Eco mode, it does a rather low top speed of 45kph, which makes it very sluggish in traffic. Sport mode feels a little better, but that also results in fast exhaustion of the battery. Performance also takes a dip once the battery level decreases. However, a decline in performance while the battery is low on charge is quite common on electric scooters. At 150kgs, the scooter feels light and nimble. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 175mm, while the scooter has a seat height of 800mm.
Mileage
The Okinawa i-Praise has a battery capacity of 2.9kWh. In terms of range, the scooter is capable of covering 170kms, by ARAI.
Mechanical Parts
The handlebar is positioned too low, while your knees are placed too high because of the high footboard. The ergonomics are not exactly like other scooters, making the riding position a bit awkward. Tall riders will be uncomfortable for the most part. The i-Praise feels sure-footed on tarmac despite its narrow tyres. But the ride quality is a bit of a disappointment as most undulations filter through, with the suspension barely soaking in what is thrown at it. And while the narrow tyres result in a good range, they don’t inspire confidence when pushed hard. The brakes, on the other hand, cut down speed very well, thanks to the disc brakes offered. At the front, the scooter rides on telescopic forks, while the rear gets dual shock-absorbers. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around an underbone frame. The Okinawa i-Praise runs on 90/90 R-12 tyres at the front and 90/90 R-12 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and at the rear.
Features
The scooter comes loaded with a slew of features like mobile charging USB port, keyless entry, speed alerts, motor walking assistance, central locking with anti-theft alarm, Find My Scooter function and battery info.
Colours
The Okinawa i-Praise is available in three shades like Glossy Red Black, Glossy Golden Black and Glossy Silver Black. Glossy Golden Black is certainly a colour that is bound to be a favourite among young riders.
